Vaccinations Are Key to Prevent Pet Disease
We begin vaccinations at 6 weeks of age, and they are generally completed by 16 weeks. Core vaccines for dogs include:
- Bordetella (not considered a core vaccine but advised if your dog will be spending time boarding at a kennel)
Core vaccines for cats include:
- Feline distemper
- Feline leukemia
The needs of your pet are always taken into consideration when we determine what vaccinations and parasite prevention are needed. This is important because in our area, heartworm and Lyme disease are almost nonexistent.
Pet Travel Health Certificates
If you will be taking a trip with your pet and need documentation, the veterinarians at Soldotna Animal Hospital are federally accredited to provide health certificates for intrastate and international travel. We can also prescribe flea and tick preventives and heartworm medication to keep your pet well if you are traveling to a location where he or she might be vulnerable.
We look forward to your questions about disease prevention, so feel free to bring them to your pet’s wellness visit or call our office.
